The Council  extended all EU sanctions against the Syrian regime for a further three months. At the same time, it amended the arms embargo so as to allow for the provision of non-lethal equipment and technical assistance for the protection of civilians.
The decision gives legal effect to an agreement reached at the Foreign Affairs Council of 18 February. The Council will continue its work of assessing and reviewing, if necessary, the EU sanctions regime against Syria.
The act adopted today will be published in the EU Official Journal of 1 March.
