The President of the European Parliament, currently Martin Schulz, is elected by its members to serve a 2½ year renewable term, and oversees all of the activities of Parliament and its bodies.Among other functions, he chairs the plenary sittings of Parliament, the Conference of the Presidents of Political Groups, and the Bureau of Parliament.He addresses the European Council prior to each of its meetings, and also represents Parliament in its international relations.The President of the European Parliament signs the EU budget into being and also signs all legislative acts adopted by codecision.
